Membership categories
Create membership tiers with their own pricing, validity, booking rules, and court access.
Membership categories let you model your club's real membership tiers — for example Premium, Senior, or Corporate — each with its own pricing, validity, booking rules, court access, priority, and guest allowance. Manage them in Memberships.
Categories are optional and off by default. Until you create one and assign members, every member simply follows your club's default booking rules — nothing changes.
Create a category
Go to Memberships → Add category and set:
- Name (e.g. Premium), with an optional description and colour.
- Pricing — a one-time joining fee and a recurring periodic fee (monthly, quarterly, or yearly). These are recorded on the tier; collecting the payment online is a separate, upcoming feature.
- Validity — Lifetime, or Fixed term (a number of months) with an optional grace period. A fixed-term member is blocked from booking once their membership expires (plus any grace you allow).
- Booking rules — override your club defaults for this tier: how far ahead they can book, how many bookings per day, and the cancellation deadline. Leave a field blank to inherit the club default.
- Eligibility — tick the sports this tier may book. Leave them all unticked to allow every sport.
- Priority & guests — a priority tier and a guest allowance. When a category has
Guests per booking > 0, members see optional guest fields on the booking form.
Assign members to a category
Open any member under Members and pick their Membership category from the dropdown. A member with no category uses your club's default rules — exactly as before.
How the rules apply
When a member books, CourtBook uses the most specific rule available:
the member's category rule → your club default → a built-in default.
So a Premium tier can allow booking 30 days ahead while everyone else gets 7, and a Tennis-only tier simply can't book the squash courts. If you archive or delete a category, its members stay valid and fall back to your club defaults.
Renewals & membership status
For tiers with a fixed-term validity, each member's row in Members shows their membership status at a glance:
- Lifetime — a perpetual tier with no expiry.
- Active — valid, with time remaining.
- Expiring · N d — within two weeks of expiry (or inside the grace window).
- Expired — past expiry plus grace; the member can't book until you renew them.
To renew a fixed-term member, open the actions menu (⋯) on their row and choose Renew membership. CourtBook extends their membership by the tier's validity period — counted from their current expiry if they renew early (so they never lose time), or from today if it had already lapsed — and reactivates them. Renew once you've collected payment offline; online self-serve renewal arrives with the payments phase.
